Flying Lanterns

Introduction:

A thief of luxury goods in the neath. Sporting only 5"3' of height this relatively young man has a lot of strength and power to him. The protégé of The Bandaged man. What he learns from him is unknown and unclear but The Bandaged seems to be fairly keen towards Able. It was revealed that Able's real first name is Abner, and said it was "Too Fancy" to keep. Able is a corruption of the name Abel, due to his young age in adopting the name.

History:

Youth and Childhood:

Able had been in the Neath for as far back as he could remember. He was raised in a joint orphanage and church on Ladybones road, the orphanage run by Catherine, the headmistress. He quickly formed a bond with Thomas who had been dropped off at the orphanage at age 8. Thomas often got Able in trouble and pushed him to play pranks on the staff of the church.

Able had run from with the church with Thomas around age 16, and briefly had connections to the Urchins before he turned 17. He was unsuccessfully pulled into Thomas's scheme to smuggle goods from the surface, but at the time it was merely a crummy boat and some outfits. Able declined on account of his fear of the Zee.

Early life

Able spent most of his early twenties stealing from homes that most people couldn't find value in. He managed to create a small ring of criminals with Thomas that helped move larger stolen goods like furniture and safes. These could later be pawned off in certain markets which usually only saw pocket sized goods, no one typically willing to steal larger objects.

Able didn't see a lot of this money, and his tension with Thomas seemed to cut him off almost completely. Able had adopted quite a few weasels as pets, and so he had to mostly survive for them if not for himself. He lived in a shack in the Flit, a one room "building" built hastily with scraps.

Meeting Bandaged

Able soon after met The Bandaged Man, who he quickly tried to steal from thinking he would have high quantities of money on him. Able was briefly captured by The Bandaged's Polythreme clothing, and pulled to the spire in the Bazaar where he lived. Able was let go, and given the gem he'd set out to steal.

Able had felt bad about the whole ordeal, and wanted to do something in return for the man's kindness so returned with his weasels and offered any kind of help. After an accident turned into a success, he seemed interested in what The Bandaged Man could do with Correspondence, soon after becoming his protégé. (In society, however, not in The Correspondence)

Relationships:

Able Doesn't have many relationships beyond the small group of people that he's run into in life. He doesn't typically form connections with others, but tends to be very genuine when he does.

Thomas
His oldest friend and companion since he was a kid. They would often be seen playing together or causing havoc around the church or orphanage area of the building. Able thinks Thomas is a little uptight about a lot of things, but sees that his is extremely dedicated to what he does, even if he doesn't always agree with it. Able found out about Thomas's crush on him too late, when Thomas was already emotionally closed off. They still tend to get along but are prone to arguing over little things, but are often still seen antagonizing each other in a friendly manner.

The Bandaged Man
Able's teacher of sorts. He pities The Bandaged more than anything, but still holds a fondness for him after he was shown kindness. Able highly dislikes his habit of honey and wine, having attempted to clean the man up, which ended up instigating Moonlit Memories and throwing Able into emotional turmoil about what he wanted in life. He was incredibly charmed by The Bandaged when he sobered up in Neathmas and seemed to be a happier man. Able considers The Bandaged man someone he wants to help, but will not put his own mental health in jeopardy to do so.

Virgil
Able had met Virgil through Thomas, at his party he hosted for clients of high standards. Able had been invited to Dante's for dinner and despite his previous disdain for devils, had grown a respect for the deacon. This quickly changed with Moonlit Memories, giving him some ideas he wasn't sure he wanted, and spent a long time considering what his emotions were. Able enjoys drinking tea with Virgil, and discussing anything with him, despite Able's disdain for tea, or coffee. They soon developed a sort of bond together, and Able felt even more confused. Only when Agatha showed up had he finalized his feelings, but it seemed that the deacon wasn't interested.

Able, attempting to ignore his emotions towards Virgil, made himself a wreck of depression and anxiety. Only when they visited the Iron Republic together and spent closer time together, along with help from a Gift from Agatha, did Able express his emotions completely. They soon solidified their relationship to a more romantic one, and are still testing the waters.

Agatha
Able had been unofficially adopted by Agatha(Something he's still a little confused by but accepts it nonetheless) She's a very intense person with a very physical way to show affection/anger and will try to push Able to do something he already wants to do. Able enjoys her high energy especially when she can tire out the kids and give him a break. Other than that she's just interesting to have around.

Holly
Able thinks of Holly as a good friend and someone he can just talk to and not have to worry about implications of sex or past experiences. She gives him a lot of guff but ultimately enjoys his nature as a person(even if he's a little dense.)

Urchins
Will
Able thinks he's got a lot of potential to be really good and important person. What that is, whether it be a thief or person of some importance he will leave up to William. He tends to take his actions a lot more seriously than the other kids, not allowing him to get away with things due to his self proclaimed nature of being the "leader."

Tim
Able treats Tim more like a child then he probably does the others(Bordering on spoiling a little.) His age being a huge component of that, along with how easily he's attached himself to Able. (Or at least his attachment to his cooking.)

Jim
Able considers Jim to be more or less a young man with his own agency, allowing him a lot more freedom and space to do what he wants. Able sympathizes with a lot of the things Jim has gone through and doesn't want to put him under too much pressure.

Maggie
She is a little scary, but easy to placate with food. Able tries his best to make her feel comfortable and not bother her too much. He will however still try(and often fail) to connect with her, trying to figure out exactly what she wants out of life to try and help her achieve it.

Jonah
Quiet and reserved, Able thinks Jonah would benefit from a more formal education. He thinks he should at least stay off of the streets and eat more.

Personality:

A strangely genuine person, Able likes to keep those close to him within a reachable distance. Able does his best to think of others but can be incredibly dense or stubborn to the point of argument. Able is prone to anger more easily, and is always wanting things to be more "Proper" though that may merely be his upbringing. His morals are fairly grey, and full of contradiction. Able does not enjoy the thought of death, but knows it to be a necessary part of life.
